SWAC Men's and Women's Outdoor Track and Field Championships Day Two Recap

Day Two Results 

BATON ROUGE, La.- The second day of the 2026 Southwestern Athletic Conference Men's and Women's Outdoor Track and Field Championships featured several standout performances as conference athletes claimed multiple event titles at A.W. Mumford Stadium on Monday.

On the women’s side, Alabama A&M’s Sanyae Gibson captured the 3,000-meter steeplechase crown after posting a winning time of 11:21.27. Teammate Nevaeh Carrizal finished second as the Bulldogs earned 18 total points in the event.

Southern’s Ariyonna Edmond claimed the women’s shot put championship with a mark of 13.71m (44-11.75), while teammate Ayanna Hunt added a third-place finish to help Southern move into the team lead after seven scored events.

In the heptathlon, Prairie View A&M’s Kimora Maxey won the 800-meter portion with a time of 2:28.24 while Texas Southern’s A’Keela McMaster captured the javelin throw with a toss of 29.61m. Prairie View’s Sanai Kintchen earned the long jump title in the heptathlon competition with a leap of 5.75m.

On the men’s side, Jackson State delivered a strong opening-day performance led by Collins Kipruto, who won the men’s 3,000-meter steeplechase in 9:41.74. Teammate Eric Lagat added a third-place finish for the Tigers.

Jackson State also dominated the men’s shot put competition as Kaiden Berry claimed the event title with a throw of 17.13m (56-2.50), while teammate Robert Salhab III finished second with a mark of 16.32m.

In the decathlon events, Texas Southern’s Donovan Brooks won the 1,500-meter run, discus throw, pole vault and javelin throw portions of the competition. Prairie View A&M’s Christian Jones captured the 110-meter hurdles event while Jackson State’s Connor Cooper placed among the top finishers in several disciplines.

Following seven scored events, Southern led the women’s team standings with 53.5 points followed by Alabama A&M with 42 points and Texas Southern with 32 points. Jackson State paced the men’s standings with 74 points while Texas Southern and Bethune-Cookman were tied for second with 44 points each.
 
The final day of competition (May 12) will be broadcast live on SWAC TV beginning at 5:00 pm CST with the women’s 4x100 meter relay event.
