PINE BLUFF, Arkansas – The Prairie View A&M Panthers delivered a impressive sweep of UAPB on Monday, using timely hitting and explosive innings to secure 9-1 and 7-1 victories over the Lady Lions. The Panthers claimed the SWAC West Division Title with the win over UAPB.
Prairie View A&M set the tone early in game one and never looked back, jumping out to a first-inning lead and cruising to a 9-1 win.
Caidence Martin opened the scoring with a two-out RBI double, while the Panthers broke the game open in the third inning with a six-run outburst. Mia Nunez highlighted the frame with a two-run double, and Kayla Zaid followed with a two-run single to extend the lead to 7-0.
Nunez led the offensive charge, going 2-for-4 with a double, a home run, and three RBIs. Martin added a 2-for-3 performance with a double and an RBI, while Zaid drove in two runs. The Panthers out-hit UAPB 9-4 and drew seven walks, maintaining control throughout the contest.
In game two, Prairie View A&M showed patience before erupting late to complete the sweep. After trailing 1-0 and later tying the game at 1-1 in the sixth inning on a run scored by Aryana Cruz, the Panthers exploded for six runs in the seventh to pull away for a 7-1 victory.
Nunez once again delivered the decisive blow, launching a grand slam to cap the scoring and finish with four RBIs. Martin reached base twice with a double and a walk, while Za'Riya Bell-Morris added an RBI.
In the circle, Yazmyn Stewart was effective, striking out five and helping hold UAPB to just 1-for-11 with runners in scoring position. The Panthers also showed discipline at the plate, drawing seven more walks and going 5-for-16 with runners in scoring position.
Across both games, Prairie View A&M combined strong pitching with clutch hitting, using two six-run innings to overpower UAPB and secure the doubleheader sweep.
