SWAC Baseball Weekly Awards: Feb. 18

BIRMINGHAM, Ala.- The Southwestern Athletic Conference has tabbed Bethune-Cookman’s Jose Fernandez and Edwin Sanchez along with Jackson State’s Derek Arrocha for SWAC Baseball Weekly Awards. 
 
Hitter

Fernandez was outstanding in the opening weekend for B-CU Baseball. In three games at DH, he collected four hits in 11 at-bats including two doubles and a homer for five total RBIs.
 
Pitcher
Sanchez threw five innings, gave up four hits, one earned run, and most impressively, retired 10 batters via strikeout against Bradley.
 
Newcomer
Arrocha recorded a win in his first appearance as a Jackson State Tiger against Alabama A&M on Saturday as he logged 6.0 innings, allowing just one run on three hits. He also walked just three and struck out nine in the win.
