PVAMU Claims 3-0 Win Over Grambling to Clinch Regular Season Title

GRAMBLING, La.- The Prairie View A&M volleyball team racked up 12 blocks en route to a three-set sweep (25-18, 25-12, 25-12) against the Grambling Lady Tigers Friday on the road at Fredrick C Hobdy Assembly Center.

The victory moved the Lady Panthers' record to 17-11 overall and 14-1 in SWAC play.

The Lady Panthers offense was paced by D'Mya Hill, who finished with 12 kills on the day, and by Kylee Owens, who had 12 while hitting .267. Defensively, had two players reach double figures in digs as Leila Smalls had 14 and Tayler Ruffin had 13. From the front row, Valencia Wilder contributed seven blocks.

How It Happened

SET 1 | The Lady Panthers jumped out to an early lead, handily winning the first set 25-18. Prairie View A&M never trailed by more than five points and grabbed the advantage for good at 16-15 in a set that had just one lead change before the Lady Panthers took over in the second half of the stanza. got a solid defensive performance from a front row that blocked four Grambling attacks in the stanza.

SET 2 | Prairie View A&M won set two 25-12 to promptly jump to a 2-0 lead. The Lady Panthers took control of the set lead early on at 5-4 and held the lead the rest of the way. Prairie View A&M opened its biggest lead of the stanza, 13 points, to finish off the set. Prairie View A&M's front row had a solid defensive performance, blocking six Grambling attacks in the stanza.

SET 3 | Prairie View A&M took the third set to finish off the match. The Lady Panthers took the set 25-12 thanks to a solid showing on the attacking end. Prairie View A&M registered a .333 attack percentage with 15 kills in the set win. The Lady Panthers ended on a strong note, stretching their lead to its largest point in the set to finish out the stanza. The Prairie View A&M offense also got a boost from three aces in the stanza.
