SWAC Cross Country Weekly Awards: Oct. 8

BIRMINGHAM, Ala.- The Southwestern Athletic Conference has named Prairie View A&M’s Lea Murphy, Jackson State’s Lorine Jelagat and Godfrey Kimutai along with Mississippi Valley State’s Duncan Koima its Cross Country Runners of the Week for their outstanding performances this past week.
 
Women’s Cross Country Runner of the Week
Murphy had a stellar performance at the recent Chile Pepper XC Festival, where she posted a season's best time of 19:26.7.
 
Women’s Cross Country Newcomer of the Week
Jelagat led the Lady Tigers for the third time this season, recording a 13th-place finish against some tough competition, including several Mississippi State runners. 
 
Men’s Cross Country Runner of the Week
Kimutai cruised to the finish line, recording a new personal best in the 8k with a time of 25:38.89 to lead all runners on the day.
 
Men’s Cross Country Newcomer of the Week
Koima was impressive earning third place via a time of 25:46.19 at the Belhaven Invitational.

Women’s competition is offered in the sports of Basketball, Bowling, Cross Country, Golf, Indoor Track and Field, Outdoor Track and Field, Soccer, Softball, Tennis, and Volleyball.
