SWAC Softball Weekly Honors: Mar. 8

BIRMINGHAM, Ala.- The Southwestern Athletic Conference has tabbed Alabama A&M’s Venice Sanders and Bethune-Cookman’s Halyne Gonzalez for SWAC Softball Weekly Honors for their outstanding performances during this past week of non-conference play.
 
Hitter of the Week
Sanders had an impressive week going 5-for-6 from the plate against Oakwood, along with scoring three runs and driving home two RBI. On Friday, she went a combined 3-for-6 at the plate, scored two runs and earned an RBI, followed by a 5-for-7 day at the plate in day two. Overall, she accounted for 12 hits in 16 plate appearances with eight runs, five RBI, and two homeruns for the week.

Pitcher of the Week
Gonzalez saw action in two games last week for the Wildcats. She worked six innings in the opening game versus Hofstra, striking out six batters against just one walk. She gave up two runs on four hits during the game. A day later, she returned to the pitcher's circle in a relief effort against Creighton, collecting four strikeouts with five hits and two unearned runs surrendered.
