Florida A&M Closes Historic Season at NCAA Gainesville Regional

Box Score

GAINESVILLE, Fla.- The Florida A&M softball team's historic 2026 campaign came to a close on Saturday afternoon at the NCAA Gainesville Regional, falling to Texas State 6-0 in the elimination round. The Rattlers leave Gainesville having competed on college softball's biggest stage for the 14th time overall and the first time as a member of the SWAC.

The Rattlers competed well with the Sun Belt program through much of the game, battling deep into counts and putting runners on base in the seventh.

FAMU's best opportunity came in the final inning. Amya Ramos led off the seventh with a single to right field which was one of just two Rattler hits on the afternoon and Braxtyn Battle worked a walk to put runners on first and second.

Michaela Fernandez pinch ran for Ramos and moved to third on a Spooner flyout that advanced both runners. With Fernandez 90 feet from tying the game, Douglas came to the plate but fell on a strikeout to end the inning.

Graduate pitcher Samantha Smith took the circle for FAMU and gave her team every chance. She went the full seven innings, allowing six runs on 11 hits and finishing with a strikeout in her final collegiate appearance.
