BIRMINGHAM, Ala.- The Southwestern Athletic Conference has tabbed Alabama A&M’s Venice Sanders and Bethune-Cookman’s Hannah Ortega for SWAC Softball Weekly Honors for their outstanding performances during this past week of conference play.
Hitter of the Week
Sanders had the best week of her career, slugging 1.400, hitting .400, and posting a .400 on-base percentage over the course of a three-game series against Alabama State. She contributed a 2-for-4 day that saw her hit a double and home run to produce five RBIs and a run scored in a 12-7 Alabama A&M victory.
Pitcher of the Week
Ortega held batters to a .161 batting average in a three-game series against Florida A&M. She allowed one earned run in the 18 innings she pitched while striking out nine batters.
