PVAMU Men's Indoor Track and Field Claims 2022 SWAC Title

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – The Prairie View A&M Men's Indoor Track and Field team captured the 2022 Southwestern Athletic Championship title in spectacular fashion on Friday.
 
PVAMU concluded the event with a total of 120 points followed by Texas Southern (85), Jackson State (70), Southern (70), and Bethune-Cookman (69) to round out the top five team rankings.

Arkansas Pine Bluff (63), Alabama State (60), Florida A&M (45), Alcorn State (42), Grambling State (24), Mississippi Valley State (8) and Alabama A&M (7) concluded the meet ranked 6-12 respectively.

Prairie View A&M’s strong performance was headlined by Jemal Wote who finished first overall in the 3000 meter run (8:30.38), third overall in the mile run (4:18.51). Wote (26 points) was subsequently named the events Most Outstanding Track Performer.

PVAMU’s distance medley relay team consisting of Worthington Moore, Ethan Phillips, Cymon Shy, and Wote finished in first place enroute to breaking the previous conference record with a time of 10:11.84.

Most Outstanding Field Performer Nathan Crawford-Wallis (22 points) finished second overall in the long jump (7.12 meters), while claiming first place in the triple jump (15.38 meters).

The Panthers 4x400 meter team of Nasir Pate, DeVonte Jones, Ethan Phillips, and Cobbs finished in first place with a time of 3:16.09.

Southern finished the 4x400 meter relay in second place with a time of 3:16.84, followed by Florida A&M (3:16.91).

Prairie View A&M head Coach Chris Clay was tabbed Coach of the Year after leading the Panthers to the championship title.
