SWAC Announces 2022 Soccer Postseason Awards

BIRMINGHAM, Ala.- The Southwestern Athletic Conference has announced its 2022 Soccer Postseason Honors. The all-conference teams and individual award winners were voted on by the league’s head coaches and sports information directors.
 
Arkansas-Pine Bluff’s Tiana Johnson was named Offensive Player of the Year and Freshman of the Year while Jackson State’s Sydni Wilson was tabbed Defensive Player of the Year. JSU’s Tionna Taylor was named Goalkeeper of the Year and Jackson State’s Theodore Flogaites was tabbed Coach of the Year to round out the list of individual award winners.
 
Offensive Player of the Year/Freshman of the Year
Johnson had a phenomenal season leading the Lady Golden Lions’ offensive attack. She currently leads the league in goals (12), shots on goal (44), and shots (86). In addition, she is currently ranked tied for first in the league in game-winning goals (4) and ranks first in points (27). Johnson posted two hat-tricks on the season, which is also a league-best.
 
Defensive Player of the Year
Wilson was a key contributor on a Lady Tigers defense that only allowed two goals in nine conference matches. JSU posted a shutout streak that spanned six league games. In all JSU's defense posted seven shutouts in nine SWAC matches including eight overall for the season. For her efforts Wilson earned Defensive Player of the Week accolades this season as well.
 
Goalkeeper of the Year
Taylor played phenomenal defense inside the net this season for Jackson State while allowing only one goal during nine league contests. She started all of JSU’s games this season amassing 1376 minutes of action with a goals-against average of 1.11 which also ranked first in the league.
 
Coach of the Year
Flogaites led the Jackson State Soccer program to seven conference wins this season (7-1-1). The Lady Tigers claimed the 2022 SWAC Soccer Regular Season Championship along with the top seed at the upcoming 2022 SWAC Soccer Tournament.
