BIRMINGHAM, Ala.- Jackson State University women’s track and field student-athlete Hannah White has been named the 2021 Southwestern Athletic Conference Woman of the Year.
 
White was selected based on the recommendation of the SWAC Woman of the Year selection committee which consist of the league’s Senior Woman Administrators (SWA). With her selection, White will now move on as the Conference level nominee for the 2021 NCAA Woman of the Year award. 
 
“We’re extremely excited to recognize Jackson State’s Hannah White as our Conference Woman of the Year finalist,” said SWAC Commissioner Dr. Charles McClelland.
 
“During what was undoubtedly an extremely challenging year both academically and athletically, Hannah excelled while becoming a champion and ambassador for our league and intercollegiate athletics. She’s well deserving of this award. We wish her well as she moves on to the next level of this process while etching her name in the record book of all-time award winners for this prestigious honor for the Southwestern Athletic Conference.”

This past season White claimed first place at the 2021 SWAC Indoor Track and Field Championship winning the women’s shot put event. She would go on to claim second place in the women’s shot put and discus at the 2021 SWAC Outdoor Track and Field Championship.
 
Academically she graduated Summa Cum Laude as a student-athlete at JSU with a Bachelor of Science degree in recreation. During her tenure at Jackson State she was selected to the Dean’s List twice and the President’s List four times while also serving as a member of multiple honor societies. White was tabbed a member of the Southwestern Athletic Conference All-Academic Team three times while also becoming the Student-Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC) President.
 
White was also active in the local community as she was also involved in Girl's Coalition, Welcome Week Leaders, and the Jackson State University Campus Activities Board.
 
Rooted in Title IX, the NCAA Woman of the Year Award was established in 1991 to recognize graduating female student-athletes who have exhausted their eligibility and distinguished themselves in academics, athletics, service and leadership throughout their collegiate careers.

Conference offices select up to two nominees each from their pool of member school nominees. The Woman of the Year selection committee, made up of representatives from the NCAA membership, will choose the Top 30 honorees — 10 from each division.

From the Top 30, the Woman of the Year selection committee will determine the top three honorees in each division and announce nine finalists. The NCAA Committee on Women’s Athletics then will choose the 2021 NCAA Woman of the Year, who will be named at a later date.
