Jackson State's Season Comes to an End With Loss to Alcorn State

GULFPORT, Miss. - The Jackson State Lady Tigers defeated Prairie View A&M in game one of the SWAC's elimination bracket Thursday morning before falling to Alcorn State in the night cap, ending the Lady Tigers stellar season.

In game one, Jackson State took their game in dramatic walk-off fashion, thanks to a walk-off single at the end of the game by Isis Taylor to topple PVAMU.

The game was tied at one with Jackson State batting in the bottom of the seventh when Taylor singled on a 2-1 count, scoring one run. Takiya Hill earned the win for Jackson State allowing no hits and no runs over two-thirds of an inning, walking zero.

Hall took the loss for PVAMU. The pitcher lasted six innings, allowing six hits and two runs while striking out two. Kayla Owens started the game for Jackson State, lasting six and a third innings, allowing three hits and one run while striking out three.

Taylor went 2-for-3 at the plate to lead Jackson State in hits in game one of the Lady Tigers Tournament run on Thursday. Jackson State clinched the game, winning by a final of 2-1.

In Thursday night's matchup with Alcorn State, the Lady Tigers took control early of the contest, scoring three runs in the bottom of the first inning.

JSU answered with one run in the bottom half of the inning, yet two innings later, in the third inning, Alcorn once again put together a three run inning to take a 6-1 advantage. Trailing 8-1 in the sixth inning, JSU put together a rally, scoring two runs in the inning. Unfortunately it was not enough as the Lady Tigers fell by a final score of 8-3.
