PVAMU's Hall throws complete-game gem to propel Lady Panthers past AAMU

GULFPORT, Miss. – Behind a gem of a game from freshman Mya Hall, The Prairie View A&M softball team (16-14) defeated Alabama A&M 2-0 to begin play in the 2021 Southwestern Athletic Conference Softball Tournament at the Gulfport Sportplex.

With the Bulldogs unable to plate any runs against Hall, the Lady Panthers steadily chipped away at Alabama A&M starter Esperanza Coe, with Ryleigh Love leading off with a triple before scoring on a misplay in left field. Alabama A&M (11-18) mounted a chance in the top of the second with runners on the corners and one out, but Serena Antone caught a Bulldog stealing before Hall struck out the next batter, she faced to end the inning.

Hall retired 12 of the next 14 Bulldogs that stepped to the plate, and Love added an insurance run, grounding out to score Natalie McLennan. The Bulldogs were unable to get anything done in the top of the seventh, ensuring the shutout win.

Hall allowed three hits and struck out seven in a complete-game effort. Brianna Grays was 2-for-3 at the dish. McLennan, Love, Kimberly Hernandez, Alyssa Garcia, and Jeah Williams each had a base hit.

Prairie View A&M will now get set to face Southern tomorrow at 2:00 p.m.
