Box Score
GULFPORT, Miss. – The Alcorn State University softball program used a impressive pitching performance from Brenn Ursin and a three-RBI triple off the bat of Chloey Morgan to defeat Grambling State, 8-2.
The Lady Braves (11-17, 8-7 SWAC) received runs in spurts, driving in three in the third and four during the sixth to go along with a single score in the fifth. Alcorn rattled off eight unanswered to begin the game before allowing two in the bottom of the sixth to spoil both the shutout and the mercy rule.
Ursin put forth a spectacular effort with Alcorn's season hanging in the balance, throwing a complete game six-hitter without a single earned run allowed (two unearned) and four strikeouts with just one walk.
Chloey Morgan drove the stake through the heart of the Lady Tigers' season, cranking a three-run triple to the wall in left-center to put the Purple and Gold ahead by seven in the sixth. She contributed her sixth multi-hit game of the season, drove in a season-best three RBIs, scored twice for the second time in 2021 and legged out her first career triple.
The 3-4-5 hitters in the lineup provided an RBI apiece as Ramsey drove one in with a fielder's choice, Marsha Hunt hit a single and Kiri Parker registered a sacrifice fly.
Alcorn State will face Texas Southern at 9:00 a.m. on Thursday, May 13 at the Gulfport Sportsplex.
