SWAC Softball Players of the Week: Mar. 25

BIRMINGHAM, Ala.- The Southwestern Athletic Conference has named Alcorn State’s Marsha Hunt, Southern’s Aubrion James and Alabama A&M’s Esperanza Coe its SWAC Softball Hitter and Co-Pitchers of the Week respectively for their outstanding performances during competition in league play.

Hitter of the Week

Hunt (Philadelphia, Miss.) tallied two of the Lady Braves four hits and drove in both of the team's RBIs, winning the game with a walk-off single into the right-center gap to beat Arkansas-Pine Bluff, 3-2. In the contest she had season-highs in putouts (9), RBIs (2), hits (2) and assists (1) while picking up her first multi-hit and multi-RBI outing of her Alcorn State career.

Co-Pitcher of the Week
James (Madison, Ala.) pitched a complete game shutout on Saturday at Alabama A&M as SU went on to pick up its first SWAC win of the season. She faced 17 batters and only gave up two hits while striking out four and pitching 5.0 innings for the Lady Jaguars. She caused eight batters to ground out and two fly outs.

Co-Pitcher of the Week
Coe (Beaumont, Calif.) went 2-0 in the circle with a 2.00 ERA while striking out six in a pair of complete game victories over Southern. She allowed five runs, three earned, along with tallying three strikeouts in seven innings on Friday against the Jaguars. The next day she allowed just one earned run while scattering six hits and notching another three strikeouts.
