Day One Results
BIRMINGHAM, Ala.- Day one of the 2021 SWAC Indoor Track and Field Championships concluded with the Prairie View A&M Lady Panthers and the Alabama State Hornets leading the field with 45 and 48 total points respectively.
Individually there were several outstanding performances on the men’s and women’s side. Tomorrow's schedule will feature events starting at 8:30 am with the men’s high jump and women’s weight throw.
Day One Highlights
On the women’s side Helen Roddy claimed first place in the women’s 3000 meter run. Alabama State captured first place in the women’s distance medley event with a time of 12:18.96 finishing ahead of second place Prairie View A&M and third place Alabama A&M.
Kaizha Roberts (PVAMU) was crowned champion in the women’s long jump (6.02m) while Jackson State’s Hannah White finished in first place with a throw of 15.63m in the women's shot put event.
On the men’s side Jemal Wote (PVAMU) brought home the gold in the men’s 3000 meter (8:30.22). Alabama State's Cedric Jones won the pole vault event (4.20m) while Texas Southern’s Kenneth Pree was crowned champion in the men’s long jump.
Alabama State claimed first place in the men’s distance medley (10:17.02) followed by Prairie View A&M and Texas Southern in second and third place respectively. Arkansas-Pine Bluff’s Mykhel Oppon Kuntu was crowned champion in the shot put with a toss of 12.49m.

About the Championships
The 2021 Southwestern Athletic Conference Men's and Women's Indoor Track and Field Championships will take place at the Birmingham Crossplex on Wednesday, February 24 and Thursday, February 25.
Alabama State's Men's and Women's Indoor Track and Field teams swept the Championships in 2020. The Lady Hornets are vying for an unprecedented 13th-straight conference crown, while the Hornets look for a fifth consecutive title.
