HOUSTON, Texas- In celebration of the 150
th Year of College Football the Southwestern Athletic Conference is proud to recognize several SWAC Football Legends that were coaches and student-athletes within the conference.
The contributions of these notable student-athletes have helped shaped the proud history and legacy of the SWAC.
Our next installment features student-athletes that played collegiately at Texas Southern University.
Michael Strahan (1989-92)
- NFL Hall of Fame Member
- All-time TSU sacks leader (41.5)
- 2nd Round draft pick of the New York Giants
- All-SWAC 1st Team selection
- SWAC Defensive Player of the Year and Black College Defensive Player of the Year (1992)
- Seven NFL Pro Bowl appearances, six-time All-Pro, NFL Defensive Player of the Year (2001)
- XLII Super Bowl Champion and he retired with the NFL single-season sack record (22.5) and 141.5 career sacks
Kenny Burrough (1967-69)
- Ranks as the 4th-leading receiver all-time at TSU
- All-SWAC selection in 1968
- 1st round draft pick by the New Orleans Saints
- Twelve-year NFL veteran
- Two-time Pro Bowl selection (1975, 1977)
- Holds fifth longest punt return in TSU history
Mike Holmes (1967-71)
- All-time TSU interception leader with 20
- Led TSU with nine interceptions in 1971
- All-SWAC 1971-72
- 1st round draft pick by San Francisco 49ers
- Played in both in the NFL and CFL
William "Rock" Glosson (1956-58)
- All-SWAC 1956-58
- All-American 1957-58
- TSU single game holder in points scored (30)
- TSU single game holder in touchdowns scored (5)
- TSU single game holder in receptions and yardage
- Five-time SWAC Golf Head Coach of the Year
- Former head football coach at Mississippi Valley State
- Finished with 21 TD receptions and nearly 1,600 receiving yards at TSU
Winston Hill (1959-62)
- Three-time All-SWAC selection
- Played both offensive and defensive line at TSU
- 14-year NFL career
- As a New York Jet, Hill played 195 consecutive games with 175 consecutive starts and was selected to play in eight Pro Bowls
- 2010 NY Jets Ring of Honor

About #CFB150 Anniversary
College Football 150
th Anniversary is a non-profit corporation formed to plan and administer a national celebration of 150 seasons of collegiate football in 2019.
The commemoration will showcase the rich history and traditions of the sport and its contribution to American society and culture, while also promoting the opportunity it continues to provide to thousands of student-athletes across all levels of the sport.
The CFB150 staff reports to a Board of Directors made up of representatives from stakeholder groups throughout college football. The corporation has office space at the National Football Foundation & College Hall of Fame headquarters in Irving, Texas.

The Southwestern Athletic Conference (SWAC) is considered one of the premier HBCU conferences in the country and currently ranks among the elite in the nation in terms of HBCU alumni playing with professional sports teams.
