BATON ROUGE, La.- The Southern Jaguars claimed the 2025 SWAC Women’s Basketball regular season title on Thursday with a 61-38 home win over Alabama State.
Southern played high intensity stifling defense against ASU while holding the Lady Hornets to twenty first half points. ASU shot just 26.2 percent from the field overall while being forced into committing 23 turnovers which subsequently led to 23 points for Southern.
Soniyah Reed paced the Jaguars scoring attack with a game-high 19 points to go along with four rebounds and one steal.
The win over Alabama State also clinched the No. 1 seed for the Jaguars in the upcoming SWAC Women’s Basketball Tournament slated for March 11-15 in Atlanta at the Gateway Center Arena.
