SWAC Volleyball Weekly Honors: Sept. 4

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – The Southwestern Athletic Conference has tabbed Prairie View A&M’s Kylee Owens, Alabama State’s Temperance Chatman, Jackson State’s Karys Dove, and Florida A&M’s Brookelynn Thomas for SWAC Volleyball Weekly Honors for their outstanding performances during this past week of regular season competition.
 
Offensive
Owens contributed several impressive performances this past week for the Lady Panthers. She tallied a total of 43 kills averaging 3.3 kills per set.
 
Defensive
Chatman's defensive effort contributed to Alabama State's 3-0 record at the Alabama State Invitational, in which the Lady Hornets earned wins over Nicholls State, ULM, and South Carolina State. Chatman totaled 48 digs and added 10 assists and five service aces.

Setter
Dove tallied 94 total assists this past week for the Lady Tigers. She averaged 5.8 assists per set while
earning her season first double-double in the Lady Tigers’ win vs. UL-Lafayette, notching 21 assists and 11 digs in the victory. 
 
Newcomer
Thomas was named to the GSU Invitational All-Tournament Team after impressive performances this past week. She recorded 32 kills during the weekend, highlighted by a 15-kill effort and a .433 attacking percentage at Georgia State. She also recorded nine blocks.

Current championship competition offered by the league includes competition for men in Baseball, Basketball, Cross Country, Football, Golf, Indoor Track and Field, Outdoor Track and Field and Tennis.

Women’s competition is offered in the sports of Basketball, Bowling, Cross Country, Golf, Indoor Track and Field, Outdoor Track and Field, Soccer, Softball, Tennis and Volleyball.
