SWAC Director of Compliance


Position Summary
The Director of Compliance is responsible for assisting the Southwestern Athletic Conference (SWAC) in administering and enforcing NCAA, conference, and institutional compliance policies and procedures. This position provides leadership in ensuring conference-wide adherence to NCAA Division I rules and regulations, promotes ethical conduct, and supports member institutions through education, monitoring, interpretation, and reporting of compliance matters.
 
The Director of Compliance serves as a primary resource for conference administrators, athletics directors, coaches, and institutional compliance personnel while helping protect the integrity of the conference and its member institutions.
 
Essential Duties and Responsibilities 
  • Monitor compliance with NCAA Division I, conference, and applicable federal regulations affecting member institutions. 
  • Interpret NCAA legislation and conference bylaws for member institutions and provide timely guidance on rules applications. 
  • Assist in the administration and oversight of conference compliance programs and initiatives. 
  • Coordinate conference-wide compliance education for athletics administrators, coaches, student-athletes, and institutional compliance staff. 
  • Review and process waivers, legislative relief requests, and NCAA reporting requirements. 
  • Assist with the certification and eligibility review of student-athletes participating in conference championships. 
  • Monitor institutional compliance with NCAA recruiting, financial aid, amateurism, transfer, and playing and practice season regulations. 
  • Investigate potential NCAA and conference rules violations in coordination with member institutions and prepare written reports and recommendations. 
  • Maintain accurate compliance records, databases, and required documentation. 
  • Assist with conference championship operations by ensuring eligibility and compliance requirements are met. 
  • Serve as liaison with NCAA national office staff regarding compliance issues and legislative updates. 
  • Develop educational materials, newsletters, presentations, and compliance resources for conference membership. 
  • Participate in NCAA Regional Rules Seminars, conference meetings, and professional development opportunities. 
  • Provide support during NCAA audits, reviews, and governance activities. 
  • Monitor changes to NCAA legislation and communicate updates to conference membership. 
  • Assist in strategic planning initiatives related to governance, compliance, and risk management. 
  • Perform other duties as assigned by the Commissioner or Deputy Commissioner. 
Required Qualifications 
  • Bachelor's degree from an accredited institution required; Master's degree, Juris Doctor (J.D.), or related advanced degree preferred. 
  • Minimum of 3–5 years of progressively responsible experience in NCAA Division 1 athletics compliance, conference office administration, or collegiate athletics. 
  • Thorough knowledge of NCAA Division I legislation, governance structure, and compliance procedures. 
  • Experience interpreting NCAA bylaws and administering compliance education programs. 
  • Excellent written, verbal, analytical, and organizational skills. 
  • Strong attention to detail and ability to maintain confidentiality. 
  • Ability to analyze complex regulations and communicate them effectively. 
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite and compliance software platforms (e.g., ARMS, Teamworks Compliance, or similar systems). 
  • Ability to travel and work evenings and weekends as required. 
Preferred Qualifications 
  • Experience working within an NCAA Division I conference office. 
  • Familiarity with NCAA Legislative Services Database (LSDBi) and NCAA applications. 
  • Experience conducting investigations and preparing NCAA violation reports. 
  • Knowledge of conference championship administration and governance processes.

Work Environment
This position operates primarily in an office environment with periodic travel to member institutions, conference championships, NCAA meetings, and professional development events. Evening and weekend work may be required during championship seasons and conference events.
