BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – The Southwestern Athletic Conference announced the weekly awards from matches played between September 2 through September 7. Alcorn State saw Grace Ambrose snag Offensive Player of the Week followed by Sophia Bobie earn Defensive Player of the Week. Jackson State added two Player of the Week winners with Kianah Farmer earner Goalkeeper of the Week alongside Mia Ortega swiping Newcomer of the Week.
SWAC Women’s Soccer Offensive Player of the Week: Grace Ambrose, Alcorn State
The Junior Forward from Aba, Nigeria led the Lady Braves in a 3-1 win over 2025 Regular Southland Conference Champions, Northwestern State where Ambrose added a brace on six shots with a .667 shot on goal percentage. Ambrose leads the SWAC with six goals and has logged two matches with two goals or more while holding a T-13 ranking in the NCAA in that category. Ambrose’s shot accuracy also gives her a #3 ranking in the NCAA with a .750 shot on goal percentage. Ambrose adds her third weekly award of the season and continues to make a name for herself through NCAA Division I Women’s Soccer.
SWAC Women’s Soccer Defensive Player of the Week: Sophia Bobie, Alcorn State
The Freshman Forward from Accra, Ghana helped the Lady Braves bolster their second win on the season against the 2025 Southland Regular Season Champions, Northwestern State playing a key role in the second half shutout. Bobie’s key tackles halted momentum that Northwestern State looked to carry into the second half while holding off a comeback. Bobie adds her first weekly honor as the Lady Braves return to action for a Thursday afternoon matchup against Jacksonville State (Ala.).
SWAC Women’s Soccer Goalkeeper of the Week: Kianah Farmer, Jackson State
The Junior from Orange County, California has embraced her role as the team’s starting keeper as she leads the SWAC with 43 saves and earned her first win in goal in the Labor Day victory over Delta State. Farmer added 13 saves through both matches played September 4
th and 7
th. Farmer also leads the SWAC with 7.17 saves a game while having one match with 10 saves and five complete games. In goal, Kianah Farmer adds a .705 save percentage and adds her first weekly honor as she continues to embrace her role as the starting goalkeeper.
SWAC Women’s Soccer Newcomer of the Week: Mia Ortega, Jackson State
The Sophomore from Chicago, Illinois made her presence on the pitch felt in the Labor Day matchup with a brace in the win over Delta State. Ortega helped push Jackson State’s lead in the second half by scoring at the 50
th minute following with the final goal at the 85th minute. Ortega is tied first on the Lady Tigers in goals scored while leading with a .833 shot on goal percentage. Following her performance in Monday’s win, Mia Ortega adds her first weekly honor of the season.
