BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – The Southwestern Athletic Conference announced weekly awards for Women’s Soccer on Tuesday, September 29, 2026. Texas Southern’s Ava Coverdale was named Offensive and Newcomer of the Week along with Jackson State sweeping the defensive side with Taylor Osborn earning Goalkeeper of the Week and Kianah Farmer earning Defensive Player of the Week.
SWAC Women’s Soccer Offensive Player and Newcomer of the Week: Ava Coverdale, Texas Southern
The Junior Forward from Tracy, California opened SWAC play with a historic performance leading with four goals on five shots on goal and eight total shots. Coverdale’s outing was highlighted in Texas Southern earning a shutout 8-0 win over Arkansas-Pine Bluff, with Coverdale scoring half of the team’s goals. Ava Coverdale is tied second in the SWAC with six goals on the season and ranked No. 4 with 13 points. Coverdale’s contribution not only moved Texas Southern to 1-0 in SWAC Play but also earned her Offensive Player of the Week alongside Newcomer of the Week.
SWAC Women’s Soccer Defensive Player of the Week: Kianah Farmer, Jackson State
The Junior Defender from Orange County, California adds her second weekly honor of the season with one being a Goalkeeper of the Week and now back in the field as the Defensive Player of the Week. Farmer helped Jackson State earn a 3-0 shutout win over Southern in Sunday’s SWAC Opener. Farmer opened the match with the team’s first goal along with limiting Southern’s offense gain rhythm through 90 minutes of play. As Farmer continues to build her resume, she adds her second weekly honor of the season.
SWAC Women’s Soccer Goalkeeper of the Week: Taylor Osborn, Jackson State
The Sophomore from Port St. Lucie, Florida adds her second consecutive weekly award in goal. Osborn added a clean sheet with six saves and 1.000 save percentage in the Sunday SWAC Opener against Southern. Osborn continues building her resume and will turn her attention to Grambling State on October 8
th.
