SWAC Softball Weekly Awards: Apr. 1

BIRMINGHAM, Ala.- The Southwestern Athletic Conference has tabbed Grambling State’s Ziya Donaldson, Southern’s Abigail Mitchell and Aaliyah Zabala along with Alabama State’s Tiffany Bruss for SWAC Softball Weekly Awards. 
 
Co-Hitter
Donaldson delivered a strong showing at the plate during the series against Arkansas-Pine Bluff Golden Lions, turning in one of her most productive stretches of the season. Across the three games, she recorded 8 hits in 9 at-bats (.889), scoring four runs and driving in seven RBIs, while also adding a double and drawing three walks.
 
Co-Hitter
Mitchell hit .615 with a double, triple, three home runs, nine RBIs, four stolen bases and scored seven times with 20 total bases for a 1.538 slugging percentage this past week to go along with a .688 on base percentage to lead Southern to a 5-0 week.
 
Pitcher
Zabala threw 11.1 scoreless innings in two appearances against Alcorn State this past week as she picked up two wins in the series with 10 strikeouts while only allowing four hits and just one walk.
 
Newcomer
Bruss batted .600 with three doubles, three RBI, and three runs scored to help Alabama State sweep a three-game series from rival Alabama A&M. The Stockton, Calif., native went 2-for-4 with three RBI in the series finale.
