SWAC Softball Weekly Awards: Apr. 14

BIRMINGHAM, Ala.- The Southwestern Athletic Conference has tabbed Alabama A&M’s Kali Austerman, Texas Southern’s Kylie Wilson, Southern’s Laila Clark and Bethune-Cookman’s Mia Gonzalez for SWAC Softball Weekly Awards. 
 
Hitter
Austerman helped Alabama A&M go 3-2 over the week, including a sweep of Mississippi Valley State. She batted .500, going 8-of-16 at the plate, with two extra base hits (home run and double). She drove in eight and scored six times, while going 1-for-1 in stolen base attempts. In the 11-10 come-from-behind win in the series opener against MVSU, the Port Saint Joe, Fla. native went 3-for-4, including a grand slam in the second inning. 
 
Pitcher
Wilson threw a no-hitter against Alcorn State in a 1-0 pitching duel win. In an impressive outing she struck out two with only one walk allowed.
 
Co-Newcomer
Southern's Clark hit .625 with two home runs, a double, four RBIs, three runs scored and a stolen base in a three-game sweep of UAPB.

Co-Newcomer
Gonzalez played a huge role in shutting down the JSU offense in a huge series victory over the Tigers. The freshman pitched in all three games, totaling 11.2 innings. She allowed just four earned runs while picking up the win in two of the three contests.
