BIRMINGHAM, Ala.- The Southwestern Athletic Conference has tabbed Alabama A&M’s Cornelious Brown and Victor Barbosa, Alabama State’s Andrew Body, Florida A&M’s Jameel Sanders, Jackson State’s Jared Lockhart and Arkansas-Pine Bluff’s Jaylen Jennings for SWAC Football Weekly Awards.
Co-Offensive
Brown, who earned back-to-back weekly conference honors, went 21-of-33 passing for 329 yards and two touchdowns in Alabama A&M's 23-21 come-from-behind victory over Tennessee State to win the inaugural Legacy Series on Saturday. He had touchdown passes of five and 30 yards.
Co- Offensive
Body put on a near-perfect showing for ASU against Miles on Saturday completing 14-of-16 passes for 251 yards and four touchdowns, while connecting with three different receivers.
Defensive
Sanders filled the stat sheet with six tackles (four solo, two assists), one sack, two tackles for loss, and a pass breakup. His sack came at a pivotal point, disrupting a Golden Rams drive and shifting momentum in FAMU's favor.
Specialist
Barbosa went 3-for-3 in field goal attempts as Alabama A&M defeated Tennessee State in the inaugural Legacy Series game, 23-21. He connected on two field goals of 26 yards in the first half and booted the game-winner, a 45-yard field goal, late in the third quarter.
Co-Newcomer
Lockhart completed 15-of-21 passes for 254 yards, and added a 21-yard touchdown pass in the second quarter. He also added 44 yards on the ground on 12 carries and a pair of touchdowns in his first collegiate start and first collegiate game in a 30-0 victory over Tuskegee.
Co-Newcomer
Arkansas-Pine Bluff used a huge 226-yard performance on the ground, including four rushing touchdowns by Jennings to pick up a 34-8 win against Lincoln (CA) Oaklanders on Saturday.
