BIRMINGHAM, Ala.- The Southwestern Athletic Conference has named Bethune-Cookman’s Trey Thomas, Jackson State’s Shannon Grant and Daeshun Ruffin along with Southern’s Michael Jacobs its SWAC Men’s Basketball Players of the Week for their impressive performances during games played this past week.
Player of the Week
Thomas led the way again offensively in a pair of wins over the weekend for Bethune-Cookman over conference No. 1 seed Southern and Grambling State. He scored a total of 47 points on 16-30 shooting with four threes, six rebounds, two steals, and five assists.
Impact Player of the Week
Grant helped lead Jackson State to a pair of wins to close out the home portion of the schedule. He averaged 16.5 points and 8.5 rebounds per game in the two games this week, and also averaged 1.5 blocks per game.
Co-Newcomer of the Week
Ruffin averaged 14.5 points, 3.0 rebounds, and 5.0 assists per game in a pair of wins this past week for Jackson State. He finished the week shooting 40.7 (11-of-27) percent from the floor and 37.5 (3-of-8) percent from beyond the arc, while also shooting 100.0 (5-of-5) percent from the free throw line.
Co-Newcomer of the Week
Jacobs was a key contributor for the Southern Jaguars as he helped lead SU to a key 73-70 win over Florida A&M tallying 12 points while ranking second on the team in total points scored during the game.
