ATLANTA, Ga.- The Southern Jaguars claimed an impressive 64-44 win over the Alcorn State Braves on Saturday at the Gateway Center Arena at College Park. It marked Southern’s second tournament title in the past three seasons.
Southern was paced offensively DaKiyah Sanders, Tionna Lidge, and Soniyah Reed who each contributed 11 points.
The Jaguars also played stifling defense holding Alcorn State to shooting just 36 percent from the field. Southern forced Alcorn State into committing 17 turnovers while scoring 24 points off those Braves miscues.
Southern got 28 bench points and scored 24 points inside the paint. SWAC Tournament Most Valuable Player Aniya Gourdine scored nine points to go along with four rebounds, three assists, a block and two steals.
