SWAC Men’s Basketball Weekly Honors: Feb. 4

BIRMINGHAM, Ala.- The Southwestern Athletic Conference has named Florida A&M’s Sterling Young, Jackson State’s Daeshun Ruffin and Alabama State’s Amarr Knox its SWAC Men’s Basketball Players of the Week for their impressive performances during games played this past week.

Young scored 20+ points in back-to-back games for the Florida A&M Rattlers. He recorded a team-high 21 points with three rebounds and three assists in the Rattlers' game against Alabama State. He contributed 23 points in the Rattlers’ 95-79 win against Alabama A&M while averaging 22.0 points per game during this past week of competition.

Ruffin finished the week shooting 53.8 (14-of-26) percent from the floor and 33.3 (2-of-6) percent from beyond in the arc against Grambling State and Southern. He also finished the week shooting 81.3 (13-of-16) percent from the free throw line, while also averaging 21.5 points, 5.0 rebounds, 7.0 assists, and 3.0 steals per game.

Knox led Alabama State with 32 points during ASU’s 67-66 road win over Florida A&M. For the week he contributed 18.5 points per game. He was the Hornets leading scorers during game against FAMU and Bethune-Cookman while ranking in the top ten in points per game in the league this past week of competition.
