BIRMINGHAM, Ala.- The Southwestern Athletic Conference has tabbed Texas Southern’s KJ Cooper and Charles George, Florida A&M’s RJ Johnson III, Jackson State’s B.J. Washington and Kye Collins and Alabama State’s Te'Sean Smoot for SWAC Football Weekly Awards.
Co-Offensive
Cooper was 17-of-20 with 210 yards passing and three touchdowns during Texas Southern’s 35-30 road win over Southern.
Co-Offensive
Johnson led Florida A&M's passing attack with 299 yards through the air, tossing three touchdowns without throwing an interception. The signal caller also added one touchdown on the ground.
Co-Defensive
Washington finished the game with three tackles and a pass break-up while he helped seal the game with less than 30 seconds to play when he picked off a Wildcats' pass and ran it back 82 yards for a touchdown.
Co-Defensive
George tallied eight tackles with a forced fumble, tackle for loss, pass breakup and key fumble recovery in the fourth quarter to help Texas Southern defeat Southern 35-30.
Specialist
Collins punted the ball four times, with three of those landing inside the 20-yard line. He averaged 37.5 per punt with a long of 41 on the day to earn SWAC Specialist of the Week.
Newcomer
Smoot improved to 2-0 as the starter for Alabama State. He contributed 220 total yards in ASU's 41-3 win over Mississippi Valley State. Smoot completed 14-of-22 passes for 190 yards with a touchdown and rushed three times for 30 yards.
