BIRMINGHAM, Ala.- The Southwestern Athletic Conference has tabbed Jackson State’s JaCobian Morgan and Quincy Ivory, Alabama State’s Ta'Shaun Sims and Karl Ligon along with Texas Southern’s Christian Avelar for SWAC Football Weekly Awards.
Offensive
Morgan completed 70 percent of his passes on the night for 314 yards. He finished 21-for-30 with four touchdowns and was not sacked on the night.
Defensive
Sims recorded eight tackles, one tackle for loss, a fumble recovery, and a pass breakup in Alabama State's win over Bethune-Cookman. His fumble recovery set up an ASU touchdown in the second quarter.
Specialist
Avelar went 3-for-3 on field goals as he connected on distances of 44, 39 and 18 yards during Texas Southern’s win over Arkansas-Pine Bluff.
Co-Newcomer
Ligon rushed for 59 yards on six carries and two touchdowns against B-CU. His two-yard second quarter scoring run gave ASU a 24-7 lead, and his two-yard third quarter touchdown put ASU up 38-14.
Co-Newcomer
Ivory finished the game with 10 tackles including a tackle for loss during Jackson State’s win over Alabama A&M.
