BIRMINGHAM, Ala.- The Southwestern Athletic Conference has named Jackson State’s Taleah Dilworth, Grambling State’s Douthsine Prien, Florida A&M’s Sabou Gueye, Bethune-Cookman’s Asianae Nicholson and Texas Southern’s Aylasia Fantroy its SWAC Women’s Basketball Players of the Week for their impressive performances during games played this past week.
Dilworth posted 22 points on the road against Texas Southern last Thursday. She also tacked on four rebounds and went 10-for-13 from the free throw line. Dilworth also led JSU's offense against Prairie View A&M recording 19 points, three rebounds, one assist, and going 9-for-10 from the free throw line.
Prien delivered exceptional performances in two games this past week. In a GSU victory over Florida A&M, she recorded a double-double with 17 points, 11 rebounds, and five assists. Against Southern Prien continued her stellar play contributing 15 points, five rebounds, and five assists.
Gueye had an impressive weekend, averaging 16 points, 10 rebounds, 5.5 assists, 4.5 steals, and 2.5 blocks in games against MVSU and UAPB. She had a double-double, scoring 20 points and grabbing 12 rebounds in the Rattlers win over MVSU. Gueye followed it up with 12 points, eight rebounds, seven assists, seven steals, and three blocks in a FAMU win against UAPB.
Nicholson was impressive for Bethune-Cookman during this past week of competition. She averaged 13.0 points per games to go along with 13.0 rebounds per game during B-CU outings against Mississippi Valley State at Arkansas-Pine Bluff.
Fantroy has been a key contributor this season for Texas Southern as the Lady Tigers remain unbeaten in league play. Last week she averaged 13.5 points per game along with 8.5 rebounds per game as Texas Southern claimed wins over Jackson State and Alcorn State.
