SWAC Football Weekly Honors: Sept. 30

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – The Southwestern Athletic Conference has tabbed Jackson State’s Jacobian Morgan and Travis Terrell Jr., Alcorn State’s Jacorian Sewell and Edwin Summerour along with Alabama State’s Brandon Gilliam for SWAC Football Weekly Honors for their outstanding performances during this past week of regular season competition.
 
Co-Offensive
Morgan contributed 281 yards of total offense on Saturday during a 43-14 Jackson State win over Texas Southern. He was responsible for four touchdowns including two rushing scores. Morgan also contributed via the passing game as he completed 13-of-22 pass attempts for 185 yards and two touchdowns.
 
Co-Offensive
Sewell delivered a dominant performance for Alcorn State on Saturday during a 42-21 Braves win over Mississippi Valley State. He carried the ball 12 times for 164 yards, averaging an impressive 13.7 yards per carry. Sewell also broke free for a 55-yard touchdown run.
 
Defensive
Summerour grabbed three interceptions this past weekend, two of which Alcorn State turned into touchdown drives during a 42-21 Braves victory at Mississippi Valley State. He totaled 17 yards in returns and had another pass breakup and four tackles, including a pair on special teams.
 
Specialist
Gilliam was instrumental during Alabama State 26-21 win over Bethune-Cookman, going 4-for-5 and making both PATs. He made two field goals in the first half to give ASU a 13-7 halftime lead. Gilliam’s first field goal was a career-long 49-yard attempt. He also converted two field goals in the second half to help extend ASU's lead to 26-7 in the fourth quarter.
 
Newcomer
Terrell was impactful during Jackson State’s 43-14 victory over Texas Southern on Saturday including scoring a touchdown on special teams. He scored on a 79-yard kickoff return late in the fourth quarter, the first kick return for a touchdown in his career and the first this season for Jackson State. Terrell returned three kicks for 126 total yards and one punt for 15 yards, while also adding 33 yards on seven carries on the ground.
