SWAC Football Weekly Honors: Sept. 3

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – The Southwestern Athletic Conference has tabbed Florida A&M’s Daniel Richardson and Michael Oppong along with Alabama State’s A.J. Gates and Texas Southern’s Danny Green Jr., for SWAC Football Weekly Honors for their outstanding performances during this past week of regular season competition.
 
Offensive
Richardson led the Rattlers to a 22-18 comeback victory over the South Carolina State Bulldogs after FAMU was trailing 18-7 in the fourth quarter. He contributed 282 passing yards and three touchdowns to go along with 14 rushing yards.
 
Defensive
Oppong was an impact player for the Florida A&M defensive unit this past week against South Carolina State. He finished the contest with three tackles, two tackles for loss, and two pass breakups during the Rattlers 22-18 win over the Bulldogs.
 
Specialist
Gates contributed two kickoff returns for 89 yards with one return for a touchdown during Alabama State game versus North Carolina Central on Sunday. With his team trailing 21-0 in the second quarter, his 82-yard kickoff return sparked the Hornets who ended up trailing 21-14 at the half. 
 
Newcomer
Green scored two key rushing touchdowns during the Texas Southern Tigers 27-9 win over Prairie View A&M. He rushed for a total of 81 yards on 15 carries while averaging 5.4 yards per rush during his collegiate debut.
