BIRMINGHAM, Ala.- The Southwestern Athletic Conference has tabbed Alabama A&M’s Cornelious Brown IV and Kaleb Dawson, Florida A&M’s Thad Franklin Jr., Bethune-Cookman’s Dennis Palmer, Alabama State’s Brandon Gilliam and Texas Southern’s Quintell Quinn for SWAC Football Weekly Honors.
Co-Offensive
Brown went 19-of-28 passing for 252 yards, with five touchdowns and one interception in a road win over Mississippi Valley State. He threw two touchdown passes in the opening half of 29 and 14 yards, and followed that with scores of 35, 9 and 13 yards in the third quarter.
Co-Offensive
Franklin Jr. had a career game, rushing for 195 yards and three touchdowns. He also caught a pass for five yards to amass 200 all-purpose yards in the 41-38 win versus Bethune-Cookman. Franklin Jr. was also named the Florida Classic MVP.
Defensive
Dawson garnered five total tackles, with two solo stops and one tackle for loss. In addition, he had two interceptions, the first setting up Alabama A&M's first score of the day in the 49-35 win at Mississippi Valley State.
Specialist
Gilliam made 3-of-4 field goals to help Alabama State earn a 9-6 over Prairie View A&M on Saturday. He made a 42-yard field goal to give the Hornets a 3-0 lead in the first quarter. The Vicksburg, Miss., native made a 30-yard field goal with just over six minutes left in the fourth quarter to break the 6-6 tie.
Co-Newcomer
Palmer put a bow on his outstanding rookie season, with season and career-highs in rushing attempts (37), yards rushing (178), and rushing touchdowns (3) in Saturday's Florida Blue Florida Classic.
Co-Newcomer
Quinn rushed for 154 yards and two touchdowns on 17 attempts to help lead Texas Southern to a 31-23 road win over Arkansas-Pine Bluff on Saturday.
