SWAC Football Weekly Honors: Nov. 18

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – The Southwestern Athletic Conference has tabbed Mississippi Valley State’s Nathan Rembert, Alabama A&M’s Victor Barbosa, Texas Southern’s Athean Renfro along with Jackson State’s Robert McDaniel and Matt Noll for SWAC Football Weekly Honors for their outstanding performances during this past week of regular season competition.
 
Offensive
Rembert hauled in seven receptions for 130 yards, including a 60-yard touchdown that electrified the crowd. He tallied 65 yards gained after the catch and his ability to create plays and capitalize on key moments was instrumental in securing MVSU’s first win of the season.

Defensive
McDaniel had an impressive game finishing with a career-high 14 tackles including nine solo stops. He also recorded 3.0 tackles for loss and 1.0 sack during JSU’s victory, along with a forced fumble to help seal the 16-10 win.
 
Co-Specialist
Barbosa helped Alabama A&M defeat Grambling State as the Bulldogs came from behind for the 22-17 victory. He went 4-for-4 on field goal attempts, with kicks of 45, 44, 38 and 19 yards. His 19-yard field goal gave AAMU a 22-17 lead with 7:20 remaining.
 
Co-Specialist
Jackson State punter Noll kept Alabama State pinned deep most of the game with an average start of their own 24-yard line. He averaged 44.4 yards per punt with three punts inside the 20 and inside the five-yard line.
 
Newcomer
Renfro ran for a career-high 129 yards as TSU closed out its home portion of the schedule on a winning note after defeating Bethune-Cookman 17-14 on Saturday. His 28-yard touchdown run in the early portion of the fourth quarter moved TSU ahead 17-7 following the PAT.
