SWAC Football Weekly Honors: Oct. 14

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – The Southwestern Athletic Conference has tabbed Alabama A&M’s Xavier Lankford, Alabama State’s Kareem Keyes, Alcorn State’s Stemarion Edwards, Prairie View A&M’s Guillermo Garcia-Rodriguez and Arkansas-Pine Bluff’s JaVonnie Gibson for SWAC Football Weekly Honors for their outstanding performances during this past week of regular season competition.
 
Co-Offensive
Lankford accounted for four touchdowns, three rushing and one passing in Alabama A&M's 56-12 homecoming win over Bethune-Cookman. He went 15-of-24 passing for 315 yards, with one passing touchdown. In addition, he rushed 15 times for 73 yards and three touchdowns.
 
Co-Offensive
Keye entered the game off the bench to help the Hornets erase an early 14-0 deficit in a 54-17 win over Mississippi Valley State. Trailing 14-0, the Hornets outscored MVSU 54-3 over the final three-plus quarters as Keye tossed four touchdown passes while completing 14-of-21 passes for 326 yards.  
 
Defensive
Edwards finished with 12 tackles on the night highlighted by 2.5 were tackles for losses during a 17-14 Braves’ victory over Grambling State.  His tackles for losses accounted for seven yards on the night, while he also recorded an interception and a quarterback hurry.
 
Specialist
Garcia connected on field goal attempts of 50, 54, and 49 yards this past week during Prairie View A&M’s game at Arkansas-Pine Bluff. His successful 54-yard attempt was the longest made field goal attempt in the conference so far this season.
 
Newcomer
Gibson contributed an impressive performance for the Arkansas-Pine Bluff Golden Lions on Friday versus Prairie View A&M. He tallied nine receptions for 183 yards and one touchdown. It was the fourth game this season that Gibson registered over 140+ receiving yards.
