BIRMINGHAM, Ala.- The Southwestern Athletic Conference has tabbed Texas Southern’s Zytarious Mortle and Alabama A&M’s Garrett Hicks for SWAC Men’s Basketball Weekly Honors for their outstanding performances during the opening week of conference play.
Player of the Week
Mortle opened league play averaging 27.0 points per game to go along with 6.0 rebounds per game while shooting 13-of-21 from the free throw line. He went 18-of-32 from the field (56 percent) while averaging 4.0 steals per game. Mortle scored a career-high 34 points against Southern on Saturday.
Impact Player of the Week
Hicks was a significant contributor for Alabama A&M this past week of league play. He averaged 21.0 points per game while shooting 60 percent from the field and 71 percent from beyond the arc. He also contributed 2.5 assists per game, 4.5 rebounds per game along with 3.0 steals per game while helping lead the Bulldogs to a 2-0 start in conference play.
