PRAIRIE VIEW, Texas – The Prairie View A&M Panthers enter the 2022 season with expectations of returning to the SWAC Championship game under new head coach Bubba McDowell.
McDowell inherits a promising and experienced team that finished in first place last season in the Southwestern Athletic Conference West Division.
Long regarded as a vital component of the team's success, McDowell has been credited with helping to build the current program alongside former head coach Eric Dooley. He joined the PVAMU Football program in 2011 and served as the assistant head coach for the past eight seasons.
Four Panthers were selected as members of the 2022 Preseason All-SWAC Second Team highlighted by running back Jaden Stewart, defensive lineman Troy James, long snapper Desmond Calloway, and offensive lineman Arrington Taylor.
Stewart returns to the Panthers’ offense after finishing the 2021 season eighth in the SWAC in rushing yards (657) with a total of seven touchdowns.
On the defensive side for the PVAMU, defensive lineman Troy James returns after completing last season with a total of 43 tackles, 8.5 tackles for loss, and 4.5 sacks.
The Panthers will open the season at home against Texas Southern on Saturday, September 3
