SWAC Football Weekly Honors: Nov. 7

BIRMINGHAM, Ala.- The Southwestern Athletic Conference has named Grambling State's Maurice Washington and Joshua Reed along with Alabama State’s Santo Dunn and Jackson State’s Sy’Veon Wilkerson its SWAC Football Players of the Week for their impressive performances during games played this past weekend. 

Offense
Washington had a breakthrough game for Grambling State in a 36-10 homecoming win over Arkansas-Pine Bluff this past weekend. He rushed a total of 10 times for 201 yards. Washington scored on runs of 75 yards and 56 yards. In addition, he averaged 20.1 yards per rushing attempt.

Defense
Reed paced Grambling State's defense in a 36-10 homecoming win over Arkansas-Pine Bluff this past weekend. He registered 14 total tackles, including eight solo stops. In addition, he contributed 3.5 tackles for a loss of 12 yards.

Specialist
Dunn helped Alabama State’s special teams unit account for 20 of the Hornets 37 points against Bethune-Cookman this past weekend. He contributed 137 combined return yards. Dunn returned two punts for 95 yards, including a 70-yard return for a touchdown that gave the Hornets a 20-16 lead in the third quarter.

Newcomer
Wilkerson rushed for a career-high 214 yards to go along with two touchdowns during Jackson State’s 41-14 win over Texas Southern. He contributed scoring runs of three and 41 yards in the first quarter to power Jackson State to an early lead. It was Wilkerson’s third 100+ yard rushing game of the season, and his second two-rushing TD game of the season. Wilkerson’s 200+ yard rushing game is the first by a JSU player since 2019.
