JACKSON, Miss.- Jackson State capped off the league season by claiming the 2022 Southwestern Athletic Conference (SWAC) Soccer Tournament Championship Title after defeating Grambling State 4-2 in overtime.
Jackson State got on the board at the 25:59 mark as Kendyl Terrell scored the Tigers' first goal with the assist from Annalise Brunson. Grambling State closed out the first half with a corner kick as JSU held onto a 1-0 lead.
JSU scored again at the opening of the second half as Alexes Sanchez scored a goal after an assist from Olivia Cobb to extend JSU's lead 2-0 at 46:54.
Grambling State's Lizabeth Aguero scored at the 85:40 mark to put the Tigers on the board for the first time while JSU held on to its 2-1 lead. GSU came back to tie the score at two with seconds left in regulation as Aria Whitney scored the black and gold's second goal to send the match into overtime.
Kendyl Terrell and Annalise Brunson ran it back as Terrell punched in another goal with the assist from Brunson to take a 3-2 lead for JSU as time expired in the first overtime.
With a little under two minutes left in the second overtime, Maya-Joy Thompson scored JSU's fourth goal to officially seal the match as the Tigers walked away with the 4-2 victory reigning as the 2022 SWAC Champions. Jackson State's Jordan Smith was tabbed Tournament MVP.
