BIRMINGHAM, Ala.- The Southwestern Athletic Conference has named Alabama A&M’s Aqeel Glass, Arkansas-Pine Bluff Isaac Peppers and Alabama A&M’s Spencer Corey its SWAC Football Players of the Week for their outstanding performances during conference play this past week.
Offensive- Glass (St. Louis, Mo.) continues to make a name for himself on the national stage as he contributed an impressive performance versus rival Alabama State in the Magic City Classic on Saturday. He went 25-of-40 for 372 yards with no interceptions and led the team with 45 yards rushing. Glass connected with Zabrian Moore for 44 yard- and 38-yard touchdowns along with a two-yard strike to Odieu Hilaire.
Defensive- Peppers (Greenville, Miss.) contributed six tackles, with a career-high 3.5 sacks and a career-high 4.0 tackles for loss and a forced fumble leading to a turnover in the Golden Lions win over Prairie View A&M. Peppers made 2 1/2 sacks in the second half, including a sack on the final play of the game to seal the win.
Specialist- Corey (New Palestine, Ind.) connected on all five of his extra points but came through in the clutch in a tie ballgame right before the half. Following a blocked punt deep in ASU territory with nine seconds left in the first half and the scored knotted at 14-14, Corey lined up from 46-yards out and proceeded to convert the attempt to give AAMU a three-point lead at the half. The field goal ranks as one of the longest in program history, coming in just two short of the program record of 48 set by Rashad Cylar in 2003 against Southern.
