BIRMINGHAM, Ala.- Jackson State’s Daylen Baldwin, Prairie View A&M’s Storey Jackson and Mississippi Valley State’s Orlando Fernandez were all named Southwestern Athletic Conference Football Players of the Week for their outstanding play this past weekend the league announced on Monday.
 
Offense/Newcomer- Baldwin (Southfield, Mich.) grabbed six receptions for a career-high 136 yards and three touchdowns, which was also a career-high. Baldwin was a significant contributor for Jackson State offensively during the Tigers 43-7 win over Mississippi Valley State on Sunday.

Defensive- Jackson (Olathe, Kan.) is currently the nations’ leader in tackles (34) and tackles per game (17.0). This past week he helped lead Prairie View A&M to a 17-10 win over Grambling State at the State Fair Classic. He registered 17 total tackles including three tackles for loss and two sacks. He also contributed an interception and a forced fumble. 
 
Specialist- Fernandez (Saltillo, Coahuila) tallied five punts for a total 216 yards, including a punt of 53-yards which pinned Jackson State deep inside the 20-yard line. He placed punts inside the 20-yard line on two different occasions during the game. He also converted a fourth down conversion for MVSU on a fake punt that led to a first down.
