Alabama A&M’s Johnson and Texas Southern’s Nicholas Tabbed for SWAC Men's Basketball Weekly Honors

BIRMINGHAM, Ala.- The Southwestern Athletic Conference has named Alabama A&M’s Jalen Johnson its SWAC Men’s Basketball Player of the Week and Texas Southern’s Karl Nicholas its SWAC Men’s Basketball Impact Player of the Week for their outstanding performances during games played Feb. 21-25.

Johnson (Indianapolis, Ind.) delivered an impressive week with averages of 22.0 points, 7.0 rebounds, 1.5 assists, 1.5 steals and 1.0 blocks and shot .750 (18-of-24) from the field over the course of two games. He opened the week at Alcorn State (2/22) where he posted 25 points on 10-of-12 shooting and grabbed nine boards in 29 minutes of work. Johnson would produce another strong outing at Southern (2/24) to close the week. In that game he would log 35 minutes and come away with 19 points (8-of-12), five rebounds, three assists, a pair of steals and another block.
 
Nicholas (Pearland, Texas) averaged 15 points, 9.3 rebounds and set the tone with big plays offensively when needed in Texas Southern’s past three games. He was a key contributor for the Tigers during back-to-back league wins over Mississippi Valley State and Arkansas-Pine Bluff respectively.
