BIRMINGHAM, Ala.- The Southwestern Athletic Conference has tabbed Prairie View A&M’s Gerlyn Smith and Alabama A&M’s Deshawna Harper for SWAC Women’s Basketball Weekly Honors for their outstanding performances during conference play this past week.
Player of the Week
Smith has made a significant impact for PVAMU after scoring a career high of 25 points in a 75-61 loss to Portland State. She also pulled down 12 rebounds during that game. Smith is averaging 14.2 ppg as well as 8.4 rebounds in five games played this season.
Impact Player of the Week
Harper was a difference maker for Alabama A&M this past week as she averaged 34.5 minutes while registering marks of 16.5 points and 7.0 rebounds from the backcourt. She tallied 21 points against Georgia State and her successful three-point attempts helped keep the Bulldogs in a game they would narrowly drop 62-61 in the final seconds.
