BIRMINGHAM, Ala.- The Southwestern Athletic Conference has named Alabama A&M’s Aqeel Glass, Florida A&M’s BJ Bohler, Alabama State’s Brandon McDuffie, and Jackson State’s Shedeur Sanders its SWAC Football Players of the Week for their outstanding performances during games played this past week of competition.
Offensive- Glass delivered one of the great performances of his career in a 52-24 victory over Arkansas-Pine Bluff this past weekend. He threw for 450 yards, six touchdowns and no interceptions as he went 26-of-33 in his final game as a Bulldog. His six touchdowns tied his career-high for a single game.
Defensive- Bohler had the biggest impact on the field in the 2021 Florida Blue Florida Classic as he was named the game's MVP. He had an interception in the first quarter, in which the Rattlers scored on the following play. Late in the third quarter he forced a fumble, recovered the fumble, and returned it 56-yards for a touchdown. Bohler added four tackles and a pass breakup as the Rattlers defeated the Wildcats 46-21.
Specialist- McDuffie blocked a punt for Alabama State that resulted in a touchdown to swing momentum in a 24-21 victory over Texas Southern on Saturday to end a four-game ASU losing streak. The junior broke through the line in the third quarter and blocked a punt that ended up in the hands of the Robert Rivers for a 27-yard touchdown. McDuffie also contributed a touchdown reception for Alabama State.
Newcomer- Sanders threw for 297 yards and three touchdowns during Jackson State’s 24-10 victory over Alcorn State. He was an efficient 28-of-39 passing the ball for JSU with no interceptions.
