SWAC Football Weekly Honors: Nov. 15

BIRMINGHAM, Ala.- The Southwestern Athletic Conference has named Alabama A&M’s Aqeel Glass, Jackson State’s Keonte Hampton, Mississippi Valley State’s Orlando Fernandez, and Texas Southern’s Andrew Body its SWAC Football Players of the Week for their outstanding performances during games played this past week of competition.
 
Offensive- Glass continued to make history as he delivered another record-setting performance this past weekend. He threw for a Division I era program record 462 yards on 33-of-52 passing to go with five touchdowns and no interceptions. Glass surpassed his own previous record of 446 yards passing set at Grambling State on Oct. 2.
 
Defensive- Hampton contributed an impressive performance during Jackson State’s 21-17 come from behind victory over Southern this past weekend. The reigning SWAC Defensive Player of the Year tallied 11 total tackles, one tackle for loss and one pass breakup.
 
Specialist- Fernandez was impressive in a variety of roles during Mississippi Valley State’s 44-31 win over Alabama State on Saturday. He connected on a 37-yard field goal, converted five PATs and averaged 44.3 yards per punt, three of which went 50-plus yards and were downed in the Alabama State redzone.
 
Newcomer- Body threw for 299 yards and four touchdowns on 13-of-25 passing during Texas Southern’s most recent outing versus Alabama A&M. He also was a dual threat for TSU as he contributed 54 yards on the groud to go along with one rushing touchdown.
