BIRMINGHAM, Ala.- The Southwestern Athletic Conference announced its 2021-22 Preseason All-SWAC Men’s Basketball teams and individual award winners on Wednesday. The all-conference honors were voted on by the league’s coaches and sports information directors.  

Prairie View A&M’s Jawaun Daniels was named Preseason Player of the Year, while Jackson State’s Jayveous McKinnis claimed Preseason Defensive Player of the Year recognition.

Daniels ranked sixth in the league in points per game with a 15.2 ppg average. He also ranked ninth in rebounds per game (6.1), second in field goal percentage (.541), and eighth in three-point field goals per game (1.7).

McKinnis was a key defensive presence for Jackson State as the Tigers team ranked first in opponent average points per game (62.8). He ranked ninth in the league in points per game (12.5), first in rebounds per game (13.2), first in blocks per game (2.1), and sixth in minutes played per game (32.6).
