Alabama A&M’s Hicks and Alabama State’s Strawbridge Tabbed for SWAC Men's Basketball Weekly Honors

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – The Southwestern Athletic Conference has named Alabama A&M’s Garrett Hicks its SWAC Men’s Basketball Player of the Week and Alabama State’s Kenny Strawbridge its SWAC Men’s Basketball Impact Player of the Week for their outstanding performances during games played Jan. 23-25

Hicks (Madison, Ala.) turned in an outstanding performance as the Bulldogs defeated Southern University, 68-58, at home on Saturday. In 36 minutes of play, the guard scored 27 points on 10-of-17 shooting, including 7-of-11 from three-point range, along with four rebounds and three assists on the night. Hicks seven made three-point attempts in the game is tied for second all-time in program history and is also his second time reaching that mark this season.
 
Strawbridge (Rockford, Ill.) gained national attention for his buzzer-beater on Monday night. The sophomore recorded 16 points and 14 rebounds against Southern, his third double-double of the season. But it was his last second heroics that garnered national attention after he picked up a loose ball with less than a second left and got a shot to fall as the buzzer went off ending a two-game ASU losing streak with a 66-64 victory for Alabama State over Southern. For the week, he averaged 9.0 points and 7.5 rebounds per game. He finished the week shooting 66.7 percent from the free throw line, including connecting on 10-for-13 from the charity stripe against Southern.
  
Other Notable Performances: 
  • Alcorn State’s Troymain Crosby went for a game-high 19 points in the Braves win over Alabama State. He went 8-15 from the field, 1-2 from three-point range and 2-2 from the foul line. He also grabbed six rebounds and came away with two steals in 35 minutes of play.
  • Texas Southern’s Galen Alexander led TSU with 14 points, eight rebounds and three steals as TSU won for the first time at Arkansas-Pine Bluff since 2017.
  • Prairie View A&M’s Jeremiah Gambrell averaged 21 points per game posting 19 points versus Mississippi Valley State and 23 points in the Panthers win over UAPB. In both games he had three steals, three assists and four rebounds.
  • Jackson State’s Tristan Jarrett scored 24 points to lead JSU to a 75-61 win versus Grambling State on Saturday.
