BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – The Southwestern Athletic Conference has named Alcorn State’s Troymain Crosby its SWAC Men’s Basketball Player of the Week and Grambling State’s Cameron Christon its SWAC Men’s Basketball Impact Player of the Week for their outstanding performances during games played Jan. 16-18.
Crosby (Laurel, Miss.) helped power the Braves to a pair of conference wins this week leading the team in scoring both games. For the week, he scored 41 points, converting 15-26 from the field, 1-3 from three-point range and 10-12 from the foul line. He also contributed 11 rebounds, an assist and a steal playing a total of 64 minutes. He opened the week against MVSU tallying 23 points on 9-12 shooting and also contributed four rebounds. Crosby closed the week with another strong performance collecting 18 points and five rebounds in the Braves’ win over UAPB.
Christon (Allen, Texas) contributed a game high 18 points during the Tigers win on the road at Texas Southern (78-72) on Saturday. He would go on to produce 11 points and six rebounds on Monday during a road outing at Prairie View A&M.
Other Notable Performances:
- Mississippi Valley State’s Caleb Hunter averaged 15 points and 2.5 rebounds during the MVSU’s last two contests against Alcorn State and Southern University.
- Alabama State’s Brandon Battle recorded his first career double-double during the Hornets' contest at Alabama A&M. The senior finished the night with 14 points and 11 rebounds in the lone game this week for Alabama State. He shot 41.7 (5-for-12) percent from the floor and 57.1 (4-for-7) percent from the free throw line.
