PINE BLUFF, Ark.- In celebration of the 150
th Year of College Football the Southwestern Athletic Conference is proud to recognize several SWAC Football Legends that were coaches and student-athletes within the conference.
The contributions of these notable student-athletes have helped shaped the proud history and legacy of the SWAC.
Our next installment features student-athletes that played collegiately at Arkansas-Pine Bluff.
Arkansas-Pine Bluff
Charles “Monk” Williams (1965-67)
- Scored a career high 41 touchdowns (37 rushing, 4 receiving)
- Rushed for a school record 292 yards against Prairie View A&M in 1967
- Had five rushing touchdowns against Prairie View A&M in 1967, finished the season with 18 rushing touchdowns and collected 1,592 total offensive yards in 1967
- First player in school history to have back-to-back seasons with 1,000-plus rushing yards (1,137 yards in 1966; 1,009 yards in 1967)
- Two-time NAIA All-American (1966-1967)
L.C. Greenwood (1965-67)
- Three-year starter for the Golden Lions
- One of a record number seven UAPB players drafted into the NFL in 1969
- Selected by the Pittsburgh Steelers in the 12th round
- Perhaps the most widely known former Golden Lion football players who starred for the four-time Super Bowl champions Steelers
Wallace Francis (1969-72)
- Three-year starter for the Golden Lions
- Registered 28 career touchdown receptions
- Averaged a career 17.5 yards per reception
- Caught 14 touchdown passes during his senior season in 1972
- Despite playing in a run-oriented offense, he had 85 career receptions for 1,785 yards
- Selected by the Buffalo Bills in the fifth round of the 1973 NFL Draft
Greg Wesley (1997-99)
- Burst onto the scene as a walk-on during spring practice in 1997 and earned a starting spot at free safety. Chosen special team’s MVP by the coaching in his first season
- A three-year starter who was tabbed as a speedster and vicious hitter by the coaching staff
- Led the SWAC with 16 pass break-ups in 1998
- Named All-SWAC second team in 1998
- Picked by the Kansas City Chiefs in the third round of the 2000 NFL Draft
Terron Armstead (2009-12)
- A four-year starter at left tackle and three-time All-SWAC performer
- Selected by the New Orleans Saints in the third round of the 2013 NFL Draft
- At the 2013 NFL Combine, he clocked an eye-popping 4.71 timing in the 40-yard dash that was the fastest time of any offensive lineman
- While at UAPB, he doubled as a shot putter, discus thrower and hammer thrower in track and field, placing 10th in the shot put at the NCAA West Regionals in 2012

About #CFB150 Anniversary
College Football 150
th Anniversary is a non-profit corporation formed to plan and administer a national celebration of 150 seasons of collegiate football in 2019.
The commemoration will showcase the rich history and traditions of the sport and its contribution to American society and culture, while also promoting the opportunity it continues to provide to thousands of student-athletes across all levels of the sport.
The CFB150 staff reports to a Board of Directors made up of representatives from stakeholder groups throughout college football. The corporation has office space at the National Football Foundation & College Hall of Fame headquarters in Irving, Texas.
